The innovative steel table, Stream, champions sustainability through recycled materials and energy-efficient methods, resulting in a notably lower carbon footprint than other metal tables. Addressing environmental impact in design is essential, encompassing both aesthetic and sustainable considerations. Guto Davies addresses the challenge of energy-intensive materials and manufacturing techniques in Stream. Employing UK-sourced steel, including recycled content, utilizing sheet metal folding, and efficient assembly, the design minimizes environmental impact. The table is held together using nuts and bolts, eliminating energy-intensive welding and allowing easy flat-pack assembly.

Davies calculates the table's carbon footprint at 20.07kgCO2e and energy usage at 86.086kwh, markedly lower than alternatives. Comparatively, this is comparable to drinking 4 cups of tea daily for a year or driving 40 miles in a medium-sized car. Stream underscores that sustainability can be achieved in steel-based designs. The hope is for companies and designers to follow suit by disclosing carbon footprints and energy use, spurring consumers towards sustainable choices.
